Mickey,
On point one, as of August, 2008 it was still owned by IAC which owned Ticketmaster. I mention that it was owned by IAC, but as far as I’m concerned if two organizations are owned by the same umbrella corporation, the meaning of my point stands.

That said, your point made me re-research the matter and I discovered that in August 2008, IAC actually spun off Ticketmaster. So that point is no longer valid anyway.

On point two, if it’s true, I didn’t notice because I’ve been ignoring evites for nearly a year now (I just hadn’t formally acknowledged it). If that is the case, I’m glad to see they have finally decided to innovate some, but that doesn’t change my stance. While they may have finally made a change or two, I still don’t believe they will ever try to do right by their users–that is the bottom line. They may just be feeling some heat because there is finally some worthy competition in the space.

responses to couple of yr points of fact:

- evite is nor ever was owned by ticketmaster. evite is owned by IAC, which also owned ticketmaster at some point.
- they’ve had a new mobile site for a few months now, which gives you all your event info in one shot

Here’s what I do for my massive music collection:

* Two 160GB drives in cheap USB enclosures.

* Use one as the main data storage device.

* Use the other as a mirrored backup. I don’t buy music every day (weekly at best) so I just do an rsync (your Mac should have that on the command line) to syncronize them every few weeks.

The benefits of this are:

* Cheap, relative to other solutions

* Fail safe. Basically same protection as RAID.

* (My favorite) The second drive can be taken with you. The beauty of rsync allows changes to BOTH drives between backups.

I used to have a hard time with stuttering and false starts. This was then replaced with repeating myself under my breath. Which was then replaced with slowed speech and physical ticks.
